RUBESCO 62 - The wine that placed Umbria in the world map

Rubesco 62 represents more than just a typical Umbria red wine; each bottle tells a unique story, reflecting the region's history, winemaking expertise, and the vision of its creator.

This is a pure Sangiovese wine sourced directly from the heart of Torgiano DOC, in the region's oldest and highest vineyards. Grapes are harvested in late September when they are ripe and fresh, and they capture the flavor and essence of the region's slow way of life and tradition. After fermenting in stainless steel tanks, it matures in large oak vats for a period of 12 months. What's the result? An expressive, vivacious red wine of elegance, richness, and character.

In the glass, Rubesco 62 shows a ruby red of a deep quality, with violet hues. Fruity aromas of ripe cherry, violet, and blood orange register on your nose.
On the palate, you get a juicy but refined flavor, along with softly rounded tannins and a bracing savory finish that invites you back in for another drink.

Rubesco also represents a slice of Italian wine heritage. In 1962, Giorgio Lungarotti asked his wife, Maria Grazia, to name this peculiar wine. She selected "Rubesco" as the name, which comes from the Latin term rubescere meaning to turn red through being proud or pleased. It was one of the first of the Italian reds to bear a name of its own.The same year also saw the release of Rubesco's first vintage being noticed by the famous wine writer Hugh Johnson, who wrote, "Giorgio Lungarotti put Umbria on the world wine map".

Rubesco 62 accompanies traditional Umbrian dishes — roast pork, perhaps, or cannelloni or robust legumes — but also pairs well with modern cuisine. If you prefer wines that express their place, their makers, and purpose, this bottle could become a favorite of yours.
