Orvieto Classico wine is more than just a label; it's the emblem of a historical legacy, a tribute to the art of winemaking that is deeply rooted here. Born from the fertile heart of these lands, this wine has a unique taste, the result of a careful selection of grape varieties that give it an incomparable range of flavours and aromas.
The fame of Orvieto's white wine transcends regional boundaries, becoming a true symbol of Italian oenology. With its perfect balance of acidity and sweetness, this wine tells a story of passion and dedication, of generations of winemakers who have worked the land with love and respect, giving life to a product that is pure poetry in a bottle.
The typical wines of Orvieto are not only an essential part of the local gastronomy, but also the guardians of a tradition and culture that has been renewed from generation to generation. These wines are the essence of Orvieto, an invitation to discover and savour the history of a city where every glass is a journey through time.
DIVERSITY AND VARIETY OF ORVIETO'S TYPICAL WINES
Today, the Consortium for the Defence of Orvieto's Wines safeguards the quality and image of these wines, renowned for their complexity and personality.
Among the typical wines of Orvieto, the most famous is the DOC Orvieto Classico, a white wine available in different versions: classic, superior, semi-sweet, sweet and amabile. The blend is mainly composed of Grechetto, Trebbiano (Procanico) and Verdello, giving the wine a straw-yellow colour and a dry, slightly spicy taste. Orvieto DOC is a versatile wine that goes well with hors d'oeuvres, first courses, fish and cheese.
But Orvieto is not just a white wine. Over the years, the red Orvietano DOC has also emerged, a wine with an intense ruby red colour, soft and velvety on the palate, produced mainly with Sangiovese, Cabernet, Merlot, Aleatico or Ciliegiolo grapes.
In the Orvieto area, other notable wines include Lago di Corbara DOC and IGT Allerona, which offers a range of white, red, rosé, sparkling, dessert and novello wines. Last but not least, distilled spirits, grappas and muffato wine, one of the most famous Italian dessert wines in the world, complete the Orvieto wine scene.
